Deepika Padukone has recently made headlines with her decision to step back from two significant film projects, signaling a shift in her career focus. She expressed that her current priority lies more in storytelling rather than participating in high-budget films.
In a candid conversation with Harper’s Bazaar India, Deepika shared her disinterest in blockbuster films that gross ₹500-600 crore. She emphasized that her aspirations have evolved beyond fame and success, stating, “At this stage, it’s not about that anymore.” Her current goal is to empower emerging talent, including writers and directors, which she finds more fulfilling than pursuing blockbuster hits.
Earlier this year, Deepika faced a professional fallout, leading to her exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit, where she was set to star alongside Prabhas. Reports indicated that her departure stemmed from disputes over work hours following the birth of her child. Subsequently, she was also removed from the sequel of Kalki 2898 AD, another film featuring Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan, which brought her involvement in noteworthy projects to a swift end.
Despite the changes, Deepika’s upcoming lineup remains promising. She reunites with Shah Rukh Khan in King, which will be released in 2026, and is set to star beside Allu Arjun in a new, untitled project that is expected to hit theaters in 2027. As she navigates this new phase, her commitment to storytelling and supporting fresh talent reveals a deeper passion for the craft that extends beyond commercial success.
