Rapper Honey Singh, known for his influence in the Indian music scene, reflected on his battle with drug addiction during a recent interview. He characterized his drug use as the gravest mistake of his career, revealing that it took nearly eight years to fully detoxify his body.
In his conversation with NDTV, Honey Singh recounted the impact of addiction on his life. He emphasized the intelligence and ambition he possessed two decades ago, which became overshadowed by substance abuse. “I advise all my younger brothers and sisters to steer clear of drugs, as they can cause tremendous harm,” he stated. He shared that it wasn’t until he was diagnosed with an illness around 2014 that he recognized the need to quit, but the remnants of addiction lingered for years.
During the height of his career, particularly between 2012 and 2014, Singh maintained a significant distance from his family in an effort to conceal his addiction. He revealed that he only saw his parents a handful of times during that period, attributing this to being consumed by fame and money. “I was touring the world and had forgotten them,” he confessed.
Honey Singh’s troubles began following the success of his hit song “Desi Kalakaar.” After achieving significant accolades in 2012, he experienced a personal decline, leading to a diagnosis of bipolar disorder and subsequent substance abuse. He faced a turning point in 2017, breaking down mid-tour, which prompted his departure from the music scene to pursue recovery. Discussing his struggles, he noted extreme behaviors associated with his addiction, including heavy drug use and a complete disconnection from his family.
Looking ahead, Honey Singh made a notable return to the music industry in 2023 with the release of “Kalaastar,” a continuation of his earlier work. He is now set to launch the My Story World Tour, which will commence in Dubai on February 6, 2026, at the Coca-Cola Arena. Additionally, Singh recently released an album titled “51 Glorious Days,” marking his ongoing efforts to reclaim his career in music.
