Actor Suniel Shetty recently discussed his reluctance to participate in South Indian films during an interview. His insights reveal interesting dynamics between Bollywood and regional cinema, especially in terms of casting preferences.
In a session held at Lallantop Adda 2025 in Delhi, Shetty clarified that while he receives offers from the South film industry, they frequently come with a common theme—roles that are antagonistic. He expressed his discontent with this trend, noting that filmmakers often desire to cast Hindi film stars in negative roles to add depth to their stories. Shetty stated, “They want to cast the Hindi heroes as powerful from an antagonistic point of view… And that is one thing that I don’t like.”
Reflecting on his past experiences, he shared that he took on a role in the film “Darbar” alongside the iconic Rajinikanth, primarily to fulfill his aspiration of working with the legendary actor. He also appeared in a small role in the Tulu film “Jai,” which he chose to support due to its positive reception. Shetty emphasized that there is no longer a significant language barrier in cinema, asserting that content quality is what truly matters.
Looking ahead, Suniel Shetty recently appeared in the series “Hunter 2,” alongside co-star Jackie Shroff. His upcoming film “Welcome to the Jungle” promises to be an ensemble piece, featuring well-known actors such as Sanjay Dutt, Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, Raveena Tandon, and Lara Dutta. Additionally, Shetty is set to participate in “Hera Phera 3,” with filming anticipated to commence in early 2024. His ongoing projects highlight his commitment to diverse cinematic endeavors while navigating the intricacies of Bollywood and regional films.
