Suniel Shetty, a well-known figure in Bollywood, has opened up about his limited participation in South Indian cinema. In a recent interview, he highlighted a significant reason for his reluctance to accept roles in these films, particularly noting the trend of being offered negative characters meant for Hindi stars.
During a public session at Lallantop Adda 2025 in Delhi, Shetty explained that while he receives offers from the South film industry, they frequently come with the expectation that he will portray antagonistic roles. He expressed his discomfort with this trend, stating that such casting choices focus on portraying Hindi actors as formidable villains to enhance the cinematic experience for audiences.
Reflecting on his career choices, Shetty mentioned his collaboration with the legendary Rajinikanth in the film “Darbar,” which he took on to fulfill a personal aspiration. He also noted his cameo in the Tulu film “Jai,” emphasizing his support for diverse storytelling. Shetty pointed out that language barriers are diminishing in the film industry, emphasizing that strong content is key to transcending linguistic differences.
In terms of upcoming projects, Shetty recently starred in the series “Hunter 2,” alongside Jackie Shroff. His next major film appearance will be in “Welcome to the Jungle,” which boasts an impressive ensemble cast that includes Sanjay Dutt, Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, Raveena Tandon, and Lara Dutta. Additionally, he is set to work on “Hera Phera 3,” with filming expected to commence in the early months of next year.
