Markiplier’s ‘Iron Lung’ Finally Releases: Everything You Need to Know

Mark Fischbach, known to millions as Markiplier, is set to make his directorial debut with the horror film Iron Lung. After more than two years of anticipation and challenges in production, the film is finally slated for release. Fans eagerly awaiting the project will soon have the opportunity to experience Markiplier’s unique vision as both a filmmaker and a creator.

Iron Lung is scheduled to hit theaters on January 30, 2025. The initial plan includes screenings in 50 to 100 independent theaters over the opening weekend, lasting until February 1, 2025. Markiplier has opted for self-distribution, collaborating directly with cinemas, which is a rare approach for this type of project. Ticket sales will commence on December 5, 2025, coinciding with the film’s premiere at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Los Angeles.

Although fans are curious about the film’s eventual online release, Markiplier has not disclosed any specific platforms or timelines. In an interview with Variety, he emphasized that significant effort has gone into the film’s post-production over the last 2-3 years, reiterating that maintaining a strong theatrical presence is his top priority. Based on the indie horror game of the same name by David Szymanski, the film features a cast that includes Caroline Rose Kaplan, Troy Baker, and Elsie Lovelock.

The prolonged delay of Iron Lung has added an element of intrigue around the film. Markiplier humorously remarked that industry insiders cautioned him against taking on multiple roles in the film’s creation. He now feels vindicated by the outcome. In a playful assertion, he claimed that Iron Lung has achieved a world record for the most blood featured in a horror film, hinting at a chilling experience for viewers. The story follows a convict trapped within a sealed submarine, who embarks on an eerie journey to explore an ocean of blood after a cataclysmic event known as The Quiet Rapture.

Markiplier remains a prominent figure in the digital landscape, with over 37 million subscribers on YouTube and a cumulative following exceeding 73 million on various platforms. His content varies widely, from horror gaming to interactive cinematic experiences like In Space With Markiplier and A Heist With Markiplier. Additionally, he hosts podcasts such as Distractable and Go! My Favorite Sports Team, and appeared in Amazon Prime Video’s thriller series, The Edge of Sleep.

On a personal note, Markiplier’s life took a major step in 2025 when he married his long-time partner, Amy Nelson. Nelson is an artist and animator who has made several appearances in his videos, accumulating her own fan base. Despite their significant public presence, the couple values their privacy and prefers a low-profile lifestyle.

Fans are eagerly anticipating Iron Lung. The film’s innovative premise and Markiplier’s distinctive touch are expected to garner widespread interest.
