Actor Vijay, founder of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), recently held his first public rally in Erode, Tamil Nadu, following a tragic stampede in Karur in September. The event saw an impressive turnout, with Vijay capturing the excitement in a video he dubbed his “Erode selfie,” which he later shared on social media.
During the rally, Vijay delivered a stirring speech, condemning what he described as the “ugly politics” of the ruling DMK party. He reassured attendees that TVK would not engage in such politics, concluding his address with a show of solidarity for his supporters, stating, “I stand with the people, and the people stand with me.” As the rally came to a close, he encouraged the audience to return home safely before taking a moment to film the large crowd.
Following the event, Vijay posted the selfie video on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, expressing his gratitude by saying, “Thank you Erode.” The video showcased him adjusting his camera in front of an enthusiastic crowd, which erupted into cheers. As of the latest counts, the video has garnered over 5.5 million views on Instagram, highlighting the strong connection between Vijay and his supporters.
Fans reacted positively to the actor’s post, with comments praising his charisma, referring to him as a “selfie master” and a “handsome older brother.” The rally marked Vijay’s first significant public appearance since the unfortunate events in Karur, where 41 people lost their lives, and many others were injured in the stampede.
Looking ahead, Vijay intends to transition from acting to politics following the 2026 Tamil Nadu elections. His recent work includes the film “The GOAT,” directed by Venkat Prabhu, released in 2024. His final movie, “Jana Nayagan,” directed by H Vinoth and featuring co-stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, and Mamitha Baiju, is scheduled for theatrical release during Pongal 2026.
