The Bollywood film “Dhurandhar,” featuring Ranveer Singh, has captivated audiences and generated significant box office revenue. With over ₹600 crore in global earnings from a ₹140 crore budget, the film is on track to become one of the top hits of 2025. In this analysis, we explore whether “Dhurandhar” has outperformed other major releases this year.
“Dhurandhar” has shattered records since its release, particularly in its second week, where it achieved daily milestones at the box office. In just 11 days, the film surpassed ₹600 crore, maintaining a strong performance even during weekdays. While this impressive figure positions “Dhurandhar” favorably, the question remains whether it can claim the title of the year’s biggest Indian film.
As it stands, “Dhurandhar” finished its first week with a worldwide gross of ₹319 crore. It then exceeded both the ₹400 crore and ₹500 crore milestones by the end of its second weekend, culminating in total earnings of approximately ₹639 crore after 12 days. Currently, it ranks as the third-highest-grossing Indian film of the year, trailing behind “Kantara Chapter One” at ₹851 crore and “Chhaava” at ₹808 crore.
In terms of profitability, “Dhurandhar” has achieved significant success with nearly ₹500 crore in net earnings. Given that its production budget was around ₹140 crore, this translates to a profit margin of approximately 250-260%. Nevertheless, “Chhaava” and “Kantara Chapter One” still hold higher profitability records, with “Chhaava” earning around ₹650 crore (on a ₹125 crore budget) and “Kantara” netting ₹680 crore (from a ₹150 crore budget). For “Dhurandhar” to surpass “Chhaava,” it would need to reach net earnings exceeding ₹725 crore, which would correspond to a worldwide gross of over ₹950 crore. Market analysts suggest that the film may indeed cross these thresholds to become the top hit of the year.
It’s worth noting, however, that while “Dhurandhar” might secure the title of the biggest hit among major film releases, it faces stiff competition for overall profitability. That honor currently belongs to the lesser-known Gujarati film “Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayte,” created on a modest budget of ₹50 lakh and grossing ₹111 crore. This film has achieved an astonishing 17,000% profit margin, a figure so substantial that “Dhurandhar” would theoretically need to rake in ₹24,000 crore to surpass it.
Directed by Aditya Dhar, “Dhurandhar” is a spy thriller featuring Singh as Hamza, an Indian undercover agent infiltrating Karachi’s crime syndicates. The film also boasts performances from notable actors such as Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, and R. Madhavan.
As “Dhurandhar” continues to break records and attract audiences, it will be exciting to see how its box office journey progresses and whether it can claim the top positions alongside the other heavyweight contenders from this year.
