Content creator Orhan Awatramani, known as Orry, has publicly defended his friend Janhvi Kapoor after YouTuber Dhruv Rathee criticized her appearance in a recent video. Rathee’s footage, titled “The FAKE Beauty of Bollywood Celebrities,” suggested that various actors, including Janhvi, have undergone plastic surgery. Orry reacted strongly, labeling Rathee as “anti-nationalist” and emphasizing that Janhvi is likely unaware of his existence.
On December 25, Rathee shared a video on his YouTube channel where he named several actresses, such as Bipasha Basu, Deepika Padukone, and Priyanka Chopra, alleging that they have had cosmetic procedures. He notably featured Janhvi’s image on the video’s thumbnail, presenting it alongside purported “before-and-after” photos. The video quickly gained traction online and spurred discussions across social media platforms.
In addition to the YouTube content, Orry also noticed an Instagram reel criticizing Rathee’s comments. The reel pointed out that Rathee had targeted Janhvi’s looks shortly after she expressed sympathy regarding the tragic lynching of Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh. This timing drew further scrutiny to Rathee’s intentions.
Orry did not shy away from voicing his thoughts on the matter, suggesting that Janhvi likely does not recognize Rathee. He further described Rathee’s approach as an attention-seeking tactic and characterized him in a comment as someone who complains about lack of media attention while simultaneously amassing a follower base.
Controversy surrounding Dhruv Rathee is not new. Just the day before his remarks about Janhvi, fans of Deepika Padukone rallied in her defense after Rathee accused her of undergoing skin-lightening treatments. This instance fueled further debate over his critiques of public figures.
Additionally, Rathee has been criticized for prior videos, including one on the film “Dhurandhar,” directed by Aditya Dhar and featuring actors Ranveer Singh and Akshaye Khanna. He claimed that the film serves as a propaganda tool that spreads misinformation, contrasting its engaging narrative with what he termed lesser films that lacked impact. Rathee’s commentary on “Dhurandhar” also drew significant backlash from various quarters.
As the discourse around celebrity appearance and media commentary continues, Orry’s response highlights the friction that arises in the public eye when personal and professional opinions intersect, particularly in the age of social media.
