The Cure guitarist and keyboardist Perry Bamonte dies at 65

Perry Bamonte, the renowned guitarist and keyboard player of the British dark rock band The Cure, has passed away at the age of 65. His death was announced on the band’s official website, highlighting the sadness felt by those close to him.

Bamonte joined The Cure as a full member in 1990, contributing significantly to the band’s sound and success. He died at home following a brief illness around Christmas, as confirmed in the band’s statement. The message described him as a “warm hearted and vital part of The Cure story,” expressing deep condolences to his family and fans.

With a career spanning several decades, Bamonte was initially part of The Cure’s roadcrew before becoming a performer. His first tenure in the band lasted 14 years, during which he played guitar, six-string bass, and keyboard on numerous albums including “Wish,” “Wild Mood Swings,” and “Bloodflowers.” He rejoined the group in 2022 and participated in significant performances, with the band noting that these later concerts were among their best.

The Cure itself has been a transformative force in music since its formation in 1976.
