The Bollywood film “Dhurandhar,” featuring Ranveer Singh, is experiencing a notable slowdown at the box office, prompting its producers to reduce ticket prices in select theaters. This move follows a remarkable run that saw the film remain at the top of the box office for 28 consecutive days.
“Dhurandhar” has been a significant commercial success, both critically and financially, boasting a runtime of 214 minutes that led many cinemas to increase ticket prices due to fewer showings. However, despite its extended success, the film’s performance has begun to wane after a month of release. In response, the producers have introduced a limited-time offer, slashing ticket prices.
On January 6, Jio Studios announced that “Dhurandhar” tickets would be available for a flat rate of ₹199. The studio urged fans on social media not to miss this attractive offer, but clarified that the discounted rates apply only to select screenings and cinemas. This decision aims to boost audience turnout amid dwindling viewership.
Typically, the average ticket price for “Dhurandhar” hovers around ₹250-260 across India. This recent discount represents a price reduction of approximately ₹50, although the decrease may vary in premium theaters and might have a minimal impact in tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
The ticket price adjustment came on the heels of the film witnessing its first significant drop in revenue, failing to reach gross earnings of ₹10 crore for the first time since its premiere. Reports noted a 60-65% dip in collections, impacting both domestic and international markets. Nonetheless, this follows an impressive performance where “Dhurandhar” secured its position as the number one film at the Indian box office for nearly a month.
As of now, “Dhurandhar” has earned around ₹800 crore net in India and over ₹1200 crore gross globally. The film includes a stellar cast featuring Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, and Sanjay Dutt. With plans for a sequel set to be released in March, the anticipation surrounding the franchise remains high.
