Actor and politician Vijay’s upcoming film, “Jana Nayagan,” is scheduled to release on January 9. However, as of Tuesday, it remains uncertified by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). There are allegations from Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party Deputy General Secretary CTR Nirmal Kumar suggesting that the delay is intentional.
Nirmal has spoken to the media regarding the CBFC’s lag in issuing a certificate for “Jana Nayagan.” He mentioned that the film was viewed by the censor committee on December 19 but no certification has been granted since then. Nirmal indicated that the TVK intends to follow up with both the CBFC and Vijay, expressing a desire to avoid political repercussions. Nevertheless, he noted that if the situation does not change, they may have to consider legal action.
The absence of CBFC clearance has significantly hindered advance ticket sales for “Jana Nayagan.” Currently, bookings are available only in Karnataka, Kerala, and overseas markets, while Tamil Nadu and Telugu states remain without pre-sales. Many single-screen theatres are hesitant to open bookings due to concerns over last-minute complications. Despite this delay, Karnataka has seen a high demand for tickets, with morning shows already sold out at prices reaching ₹2000.
Amidst these challenges, KVN Productions, responsible for “Jana Nayagan,” has approached the Madras High Court to expedite the certification process. Reports indicate that the producers filed a plea that will be reviewed by the court on January 6 at 2:15 PM. The certification for other language versions of the film is on hold until the Tamil film receives its approval. The CBFC is believed to have recommended certain cuts and changes, which have since been addressed.
“Jana Nayagan,” directed by H Vinoth, features a cast including Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde, and Bobby Deol. It is set to face competition from Sudha Kongara’s “Parasakthi,” which stars Sivakarthikeyan, Sreeleela, and Ravi Mohan, and is slated for release on January 10. The pending certification for “Jana Nayagan” may influence the audience’s choice in the days leading up to their screenings.
