The Supreme Court has requested a response from actor Karisma Kapoor regarding a plea from Priya Sachdev Kapur for certified copies of the divorce settlement documents related to her marriage with late businessman Sunjay Kapur. Mandhira Kapur Smith, Sunjay’s sister, commented on this request, asserting that Priya is attempting to divert attention from ongoing issues.
Mandhira criticized Priya’s actions, stating, “Firstly, if my brother wanted to share this with her, he would have shared it with her while they were married.” She emphasized that the matter should remain private, particularly considering that Karisma and Sunjay have children together. According to her, the details of the divorce should solely concern the individuals involved.
Priya’s plea in the Supreme Court aims to obtain all documents pertaining to the 2016 divorce case between Karisma and Sunjay. Her interest in these records is reportedly to verify financial settlements and child custody details agreed upon by the former couple.
Sunjay Kapur, a prominent businessman and former chairman of Sona Comstar, was married to Karisma Kaplan for over a decade. They welcomed two children: daughter Samaira in 2005 and son Kiaan in 2011. The couple filed for divorce in 2014, which was finalized two years later. Post-divorce, Sunjay married Priya Sachdev, and they welcomed a son, Azarias.
In addition to the divorce proceedings, a legal dispute is unfolding regarding Sunjay’s estate. Last August, Priya submitted a document to the Delhi High Court that she claimed was Sunjay’s will. This claim is contested by Samaira, Kiaan, and Rani, with reports estimating Sunjay’s assets to be valued at around ₹30,000 crore. While the children have expressed uncertainty about this figure, the high court has requested Priya to provide a detailed list of Sunjay’s assets.
