The Raja Saab,” a pan-India horror-comedy film featuring Prabhas, premiered in theaters worldwide on January 9, 2026. This marks a notable shift for Prabhas, who is primarily known for his high-octane action and epic roles. Early audience reactions are mixed, with many speculating whether a smear campaign influenced viewer reception. SKN, the film’s creative producer, has addressed these concerns.
SKN accused a fellow Tollywood producer of attempting to undermine “The Raja Saab” during its promotional phase. According to him, this unnamed producer pushed a negative narrative when filming began, but SKN expressed confidence that the producer would eventually be forced to praise the film due to its quality. His remarks reflect a strong belief in the film’s success and the cast’s performances.
He emphasized Prabhas’ crucial role in the project, noting that the film would not have come together without the actor’s commitment and refusal to engage with the negativity. SKN encouraged audiences to watch the film on the big screen and believe in its potential, stating that those who previously underestimated it would be pleasantly surprised.
Director Maruthi also shared insights into the production challenges faced during the development of “The Raja Saab.” An initial producer’s withdrawal nearly led to the film being shelved, but it was Prabhas who motivated the team to keep pushing forward. Other production troubles included an allegation from producer TG Vishwa Prasad that a VFX supervisor attempted to extort the project, contributing to delays in the film’s original release schedule.
Despite these challenges, “The Raja Saab” successfully hit theaters, and on its release day, a sequel titled “The Raja Saab 2: Circus 1935” was announced. The film features Prabhas as the titular character and includes talents like Sanjay Dutt, Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agerwal, and Riddhi Kumar.
Fan reactions highlight Prabhas’ return to a lively and comedic role after a decade of dominating action films. Many praised his charismatic screen presence as one of the film’s main strengths. The latter part of the movie, particularly the final 30 to 40 minutes, received acclaim for its engaging and emotional content, although the first half faced some criticism for pacing. Sanjay Dutt’s appearance was noted as a delightful surprise, and the background score by Thaman was commended for enhancing both the horror and action sequences.
