Rahu Ketu: A Review

Rahu Ketu, directed by Vipul Vig and featuring Varun Sharma, Pulkit Samrat, and Shalini Pandey, presents an intriguing premise that unfortunately falters. The film’s idea revolves around two shadow planets, Rahu and Ketu, who come to life through a magical book. Set in Himachal Pradesh, their arrival is intended to combat corruption, but they inadvertently create chaos wherever they go.

Meenu, played by Shalini Pandey, injects a different dynamic into the story as she aspires to grow and sell marijuana for quick profits, leading to an inevitable clash of intentions with the titular characters. This intersection is central to the plot but fails to develop organically, resulting in a disjointed narrative.

From the outset, the film aims to captivate with its whimsical environment. Unfortunately, as it progresses, the storyline becomes overly convoluted. The first half drags on, recycling the same comedic scenarios of Rahu and Ketu causing mayhem, which hampers audience engagement. The integration of Meenu’s storyline feels forced, as if the characters are mere devices to fulfill a narrative need.

Chunky Pandey’s character adds to the confusion with a subplot that lacks relevance, contributing little beyond additional chaos. The film attempts to generate humor through a barrage of scenes, but most attempts fall flat, failing to resonate with viewers.

As the film enters its second half, it becomes increasingly erratic, leaving audiences unsure of its intended conclusion. Just as it appears to build towards a satisfying resolution, the story meanders further, causing growing frustration.

Despite the efforts of Varun and Pulkit, their performances often come off as improvised rather than genuinely funny, trying hard to salvage the material. Shalini Pandey’s character lacks depth, and Pandey himself is underutilized in a role that merely capitalizes on his ability to express irritation. Supporting actors like Amit Sial and Manu Rishi do their best, yet their contributions barely elevate the film.

Ultimately, while Rahu Ketu possesses an imaginative foundation, it struggles to establish a coherent narrative. The film mistakes disarray for humor, transforming a potentially sharp fantasy into a tedious spectacle that leaves audiences fatigued rather than entertained.
