War films often navigate the delicate balance between critical acclaim and commercial success. Farhan Akhtar’s latest project, a war drama, exemplifies this challenge. While the film received praise for its portrayal of bravery and patriotism, it struggled to attract audiences in theatres. However, it is now making its way to the streaming platform, providing a new opportunity for viewers to engage with its powerful narrative.
Prime Video announced the film’s OTT release on Instagram, showcasing moments of intensity and emotion. The post mentioned, “64 years back, courage had 120 new names 💪 What happened next? #120BahadurOnPrime — watch now.” Initially launched in theatres in November 2024, the film did not perform well at the box office.
“120 Bahadur” tells the true story of Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, who was awarded the Param Vir Chakra posthumously for his remarkable bravery during the Battle of Rezang La. Although critics lauded the film for its performances and action sequences, it only garnered ₹24 crore worldwide, significantly below its ₹80 crore budget.
Directed by Razneesh ‘Razy’ Ghai and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under Excel Entertainment, the film features a strong cast, including Raashii Khanna, Sparsh Walia, Vivan Bhatena, and Eijaz Khan. The narrative pays homage to the heroism of soldiers from the 13 Kumaon Regiment, who faced dire circumstances during the historical Battle of Rezang La.
In an interview with Masala magazine, Farhan Akhtar discussed the profound emotional impact of the story. He expressed admiration for Major Shaitan Singh and his fellow soldiers, stating that their resolve was exceptionally motivational. Farhan emphasized the film’s ability to evoke a deep sense of patriotism and reflect on the essence of being Indian, revealing how it resonated with him on a personal level.
