Border 2 director urges Varun Dhawan’s trolls to apologize and reflect

The buzz surrounding the release of “Border 2” has been as intense as the film itself. Actor Varun Dhawan found himself at the center of a wave of online criticism and memes targeting his facial expressions. However, following its release, the film garnered applause for his performance, prompting director Anurag Singh to call for an apology from those who criticized him.

“Border 2” has seen remarkable success at the box office, earning approximately ₹167 crore globally within its opening three days. Director Anurag Singh commented that negativity has become a common trend on social media. He noted that some individuals resort to posting negative remarks for the sake of gaining attention and followers, highlighting a shift in the culture of online interactions. While he acknowledges that critique is vital in the creative industry, he expressed concern about the increasing prevalence of personal attacks.

Regarding the trolling directed at Varun Dhawan before the film’s debut, Anurag Singh remarked that if critics later enjoyed the film, they should be forthcoming with their reversal of sentiment. He expressed a sardonic appreciation for those who might be writing apology letters, suggesting that it is only fair to acknowledge a change in perspective once the film’s quality is recognized.

Anurag emphasized the significance of fair critique while drawing a line at personal insults, which can deeply affect the individuals involved. He pointed out that actors place themselves in vulnerable positions under the public eye, and while not everyone will appreciate their work, it is crucial to maintain respectful discourse.

Producer Bhushan Kumar echoed these sentiments, acknowledging that trolling can impact film teams. Nevertheless, he expressed pride in how “Border 2” has triumphed over initial negativity. Kumar noted that negativity often drives social media engagement, but he feels reassured that the film’s merits are speaking for themselves.

“Border 2” serves as a spiritual successor to JP Dutta’s original film, featuring a strong ensemble cast, including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. While it received a mix of reviews, the film quickly won over audiences through positive word-of-mouth. The film reportedly grossed over ₹50 crore domestically on its first Sunday and is well-poised to surpass this milestone on Republic Day.
