In the lead-up to the release of “Border 2,” Varun Dhawan faced significant backlash online, with memes and critical comments about his facial expressions and smile becoming a popular topic of mockery. However, since the film’s debut, Varun has received praise for his performance, prompting director Anurag Singh to suggest that those who trolled him should offer an apology.
“Border 2” has experienced a remarkable opening at the box office, grossing ₹167 crore globally within its first three days. When discussing the film’s success amidst earlier negativity, Anurag Singh expressed his view on the trend of online negativity, remarking, “Negativity has become a default mode on social media.” He noted that some individuals resort to negativity simply to garner attention and followers. Though he believes criticism is acceptable, he emphasized that it should not become personal.
Anurag specifically addressed the trolling Varun endured prior to the film’s release, humorously suggesting that those who criticized Varun should also acknowledge their change of heart if they ended up enjoying the film. He emphasized that while criticism is part of the industry, personal attacks can have a detrimental impact on individuals.
Producer Bhushan Kumar acknowledged that trolling can affect the film’s crew, but he expressed satisfaction that “Border 2” has managed to transcend such negativity. He pointed out that negative comments often drive engagement on social media, making them more prevalent. Nevertheless, he was glad to see the film outperforming expectations, stating, “The work is talking.”
“Border 2,” directed by Anurag Singh, serves as a spiritual sequel to JP Dutta’s “Border.” The film features a star-studded cast, including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, and has received mixed reviews but garnered a strong fan following through word of mouth. It successfully grossed over ₹50 crore domestically by its first Sunday and is expected to continue its success on Republic Day.
