Director Anurag Singh has shared insights about the filming of “Border 2,” which features stars such as Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahaan Shetty. He noted that the most significant challenge was executing large-scale action sequences without the use of green screens. The ambitious nature of the war drama significantly complicated the filming process from both technical and logistical perspectives.
In an interview, Anurag highlighted the massive setup required for the action scenes, explaining that the crew size ranged from 300 to 400 personnel on set at a given time. The film was shot in real locations, including Dehradun and Jhansi, which presented additional challenges like extreme weather conditions. “We faced the cold during some shoots and the intense summer heat during others,” he mentioned.
The director elaborated on the meticulous precision needed for the war sequences, where each element must function flawlessly. “The explosions have to be timed perfectly, and the actors must be placed at specific distances when flames erupt. With nearly 500 people engaging in battle scenes, coordinating such action is incredibly complex,” he stated.
Creating aerial combat scenes posed another significant hurdle, as real fighter planes could not be incorporated into the film. This required the use of visual effects to bring these sequences to life, adding another layer of difficulty to the production. Although Anurag commended the cast for their strong performances, he emphasized that melding emotional depth with technical precision was the ultimate challenge.
“To achieve the right blend of thrill, emotion, and action in a single shot, while managing the technical aspects, was the trickiest part,” he said. He pointed to specific instances, such as Varun Dhawan’s trench scene, which needed to appear raw and gritty, and Sunny Deol’s tank sequences, which aimed to convey power and emotional weight.
“Border 2” boasts an ensemble cast, including Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Anya Singh, and Medha Rana in significant roles. Directed by Anurag Singh, this film serves as a sequel to J.P. Dutta’s 1997 war classic “Border.” Set against the backdrop of the 1971 India-Pakistan war, “Border 2” presents an expansive and multi-faceted depiction of warfare involving the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy. The film has also demonstrated impressive box office performance, amassing approximately ₹144.65 crore to date, as reported by Sacnilk.
