Filmmaker Bhushan Kumar is celebrating the success of his latest production, Border 2, which has grossed ₹167 crore worldwide within its first three days. The enthusiastic response to the film has sparked discussions about a potential third installment in the franchise, leading Kumar to suggest that Border 3 is a definite possibility.
In a recent interview, Kumar, along with director Anurag Singh, disclosed that they had initially planned to collaborate on a different film prior to the release of Border 2. They aim to resume that project while keeping the momentum for Border 3 alive. Kumar noted, “We are doing a joint venture with his company and my company. He’ll be directing, and it will be something new. Border 3 will happen in due course.”
The excitement surrounding Border 2 has raised questions about the timing of Border 3. Kumar affirmed that the franchise’s legacy and growing popularity make it a priority. “If you bring something back after almost 30 years and it is getting so much love, we will definitely take it forward,” he stated.
Border 3 will see a collaboration between Kumar’s T-Series and JP Dutta and Nidhi Dutta’s production house, JP Films. However, the director for the upcoming film has yet to be confirmed.
While plans for Border 3 are in the works, Kumar clarified that the project will not commence immediately. He emphasized the importance of continuing their initial collaboration with Singh that was planned before Border 2 came into existence. “Now is the time for that. The next film will be on those lines,” he explained.
Border 2, directed by Anurag Singh, serves as a spiritual sequel to JP Dutta’s iconic 1997 film, Border. Featuring stars such as Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, it was released in theaters on January 23, just ahead of Republic Day, and has been performing well at the box office. The ongoing success of Border 2 sets an optimistic tone for future projects related to the franchise.
