Imran Khan, a well-known actor, has returned to the film industry after a decade-long break. In a recent interview, he opened up about several potential projects that did not come to fruition during the early stages of his career. Notably, filmmakers Rohit Shetty and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra had considered him for prominent roles in films like Chennai Express and Delhi 6, yet these opportunities ultimately went to other actors.
Reflecting on his journey, Imran shared insights about his audition for Delhi 6, which took place prior to his debut in Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Naa. He explained that he connected deeply with the story of an American boy of Indian origin adjusting to life in India. Despite his strong identification with the character, he was not cast, as the filmmakers were hesitant to take a chance on an unknown actor at that time.
The actor noted, “At various points, there have been films that just didn’t come together.” He expressed disappointment over missing the role, especially since he appreciated the film’s unique narrative. Looking back, he acknowledged, “This was before my debut,” indicating how early career challenges shaped his perspective.
Imran also discussed the film Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, which he was interested in for about a year. However, after his previous film Gori Tere Pyaar Mein received mixed reviews, he was ultimately dropped from the project. He recognized the film’s originality, stating, “It turned out well… I appreciate that someone tried to push boundaries.”
Additionally, he recounted how he was initially approached for Chennai Express shortly after his breakout role. After engaging in discussions with Rohit Shetty, they both concluded that the project was not creatively aligned with his vision. Imran humorously remarked that Shah Rukh Khan was a more fitting choice for the film.
With a career that began in 2008, Imran Khan has starred in a variety of romantic comedies, including I Hate Luv Storys, Break Ke Baad, and Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. His return to films marks an intriguing chapter in his professional journey, adding a layer of reflection on the road not taken.
