In just under two weeks, the war drama “Border 2” has made a significant impact at the global box office, surpassing the ₹400 crore milestone. Led by Sunny Deol, the film had a robust opening and benefited from a strong Republic Day weekend, allowing it to maintain momentum into its second week. As its box office performance slows, questions arise regarding whether it can achieve the ₹500 crore target.
During its first week, “Border 2” generated a substantial ₹224.25 crore net, driven by an impressive ₹59 crore on Republic Day. Directed by Anurag Singh, the film saw a notable drop in earnings during the weekdays, culminating in a Wednesday collection of ₹4 crore net, marking its lowest single-day total to date. The film’s domestic collection now stands at ₹290.75 crore net, with a gross of ₹347.50 crore.
Internationally, “Border 2” had a strong start over the opening weekend but experienced a significant slowdown thereafter. Although there was a slight rebound during the second weekend, its overseas success has been more modest. After 13 days, the film’s overseas earnings are approximately $5.8 million, bringing its global total to ₹400 crore, with producers claiming a figure of ₹411 crore worldwide so far.
As it enters the ₹400 crore club, “Border 2” joins the ranks of the 43rd Indian film to reach this total. It has exceeded the final box office collections of major hits such as Hrithik Roshan’s “Krrish 3” (₹392 crore), Salman Khan’s “Kick” (₹390 crore), and Shah Rukh Khan’s “Chennai Express” (₹393 crore). On Thursday, it surpassed Aamir Khan’s “3 Idiots” (₹400 crore) as well. Depending on its current trajectory, projections suggest “Border 2” could ultimately gross between ₹450-475 crore unless extraordinary factors propel it beyond the ₹500 crore mark.
Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, J.P. Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta, “Border 2” features an ensemble cast that includes Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, Ahan Shetty, Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Medha Rana, and Anya Singh in key roles. Excitingly, plans for a sequel, “Border 3,” are already in development, promising to continue the story in the future.
