Rajpal Yadav, a well-known Bollywood actor, is currently in the spotlight due to ongoing legal issues related to cheque bounce cases. The Delhi High Court has mandated that he surrender following a series of such cases, but his recent plea to extend the deadline has been denied by the court.
On February 2, the court ordered Rajpal Yadav to surrender by 4 PM on February 4. His legal counsel argued that he had arranged ₹50 lakh to settle the matter and requested an additional week for payment. However, Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma denied this request, stating there was no justification for further leniency. The judge highlighted that Yadav had already been granted extra time and emphasized the need for compliance with court orders.
The court expressed frustration with Yadav’s repeated failures to adhere to its directives, noting that he has ignored these obligations approximately 15 to 20 times in the past. The judge commented on the actor’s lack of reliability and indicated that no further leniency would be provided.
In addition, the court emphasized that his actions were unacceptable, pointing out that he had not fulfilled any commitments to repay the owed amounts to M/s Murali Projects Pvt Ltd. Yadav is facing payments totaling ₹1.35 crore across seven cases, and the court has ordered the release of previously deposited amounts in favor of the complainant.
The background to this situation includes that Yadav and his wife had challenged a 2019 sessions court decision which upheld their conviction by a magisterial court concerning cheque-bounce cases from April 2018. As of October 2025, two demand drafts totaling ₹75 lakh were submitted to the registrar general, but a substantial ₹9 crore remains payable. The court’s recent ruling is part of the ongoing legal struggles faced by the actor.
