Sivakumar Expresses His Disapproval of Suriya and Jyotika’s Relationship

Suriya and Jyotika have become one of the most admired couples in the Tollywood industry. Their love story began in 1999 on the sets of the film Poovellam Kettupar, and they have been together for nearly two decades, sharing two children: a daughter named Diya and a son named Dev. Their enduring affection for each other is evident, as recently shared by Suriya’s father, Sivakumar.

In an interview with Galatta, Sivakumar revealed initial doubts regarding their relationship. He mentioned that at first, he did not accept their love. However, due to Suriya’s strong commitment, who declared he would remain single if he could not be with Jyotika, Sivakumar eventually came around. He reflected on the significance of love marriages in his career, which influenced his decision to support their bond.

Suriya continues to express admiration for Jyotika, particularly highlighting her impressive work ethic. In a 2024 interview with The Mashable, he recalled their early days collaborating, describing how Jyotika’s dedication stood out. Despite being the son of an actor, Suriya struggled as a newcomer, whereas Jyotika exhibited professionalism and meticulous preparation.

After they got married on September 11, 2006, Jyotika made the decision to step away from acting at the age of 28. Contrary to popular belief, she clarified that this choice was entirely personal. Many speculated that her decision was influenced by Suriya’s family, but Jyotika confirmed in an earlier interview with JFW that she chose to focus on family life.

Following a significant hiatus, Jyotika made a comeback to film nearly a decade later. By the age of 35, she returned to acting, noting that she felt her best roles had been in South Indian cinema. She expressed fulfillment in her contributions to the industry, asserting that she couldn’t have achieved more in films outside of her native language.

During her time away from the screen, Jyotika devoted herself to parenting and managing household responsibilities. In an interview from 2025, she shared insights into balancing her professional and personal life, emphasizing the importance of keeping stardom out of the home. She discussed how routine parenting tasks, such as preparing children for school, take precedence over celebrity status.

Jyotika’s commitment to her family underscores the everyday realities faced by many parents in the public eye. Her reflections illustrate a desire to uphold a normal family life despite the pressures of fame. Their journey as a couple continues to inspire many, showcasing the power of love and shared commitment in a challenging industry.
