Yash’s upcoming action film, “Toxic”, has stirred controversy even before its release. The film’s teaser sparked mixed reactions and drew criticism from various groups, including the Women’s Commission, which condemned its portrayal of a sex scene. Following this, a Christian organization lodged a complaint with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), claiming the teaser offends religious sentiments.
In light of the backlash, Dr. Jayamala, president of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, addressed the situation. She urged the public to refrain from hasty judgments based solely on the teaser, which she described as a brief preview designed to capture audience interest. Dr. Jayamala emphasized that discussions about the film’s content should occur only after it has been thoroughly reviewed by the censor board.
She also noted that the film’s producers have denied any allegations of inappropriate or disrespectful material. Dr. Jayamala reaffirmed that the complaints will be carefully processed through the appropriate regulatory channels before the film’s release.
The teaser drew particular attention for a scene featuring intimate moments in a car near a cemetery, followed by a violent gunfight, which prominently displayed religious symbols, including a statue of Archangel Michael. This depiction prompted a formal complaint from the National Christian Federation to the Film Chamber of Commerce, as well as to government officials and the CBFC, alleging that the film’s content disrespects women and religious sentiments.
“Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups,” directed by Geethu Mohandas, features a star-studded cast, including Rukmini Vasanth, Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi, Akshay Oberoi, and Sudev Nair.
