Sheriff Denies FBI Access to Crucial Evidence in Nancy Guthrie Case

Nancy Guthrie, an 84-year-old author, has been missing for over ten days, and authorities are treating her disappearance as a potential abduction. The investigation has mobilized more than 100 people, including FBI agents. While no prime suspect has been identified yet, a photo of an alleged abductor has been released along with new identifying details.

To encourage tips from the public, the FBI has increased the reward for information leading to Nancy’s recovery from $50,000 to $100,000. Amid these developments, a significant obstacle has emerged: the FBI has reportedly been blocked from accessing crucial evidence in the case, which could impede the investigation’s progress.

In recent revelations, it was reported that Sheriff Chris Nanos of Pima County refused to send physical evidence, such as collected DNA and gloves, to the FBI’s national crime lab in Quantico, Virginia. Instead, he insisted that this evidence be analyzed at a private lab in Florida. While the sheriff’s department has confirmed the receipt of evidence, they have not made it accessible to the federal authorities, raising concerns about the delays in processing.

Sources indicate that over $200,000 has already been spent sending evidence to the Florida lab. An anonymous law enforcement official emphasized the urgency of leveraging federal resources, stating that stagnation in the investigation prolongs the suffering of the Guthrie family and the community’s desire for justice.

Scott Courtis, a retired FBI agent, expressed concern regarding the lack of communication between local law enforcement and the FBI in the critical days following Nancy’s abduction. He criticized the delay in involving the FBI, which he believes could have expedited the investigation.

The circumstances surrounding Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance remain unclear. The last confirmed sighting was on January 31, 2026, when Tommaso Cioni, identified as the last person to see her, drove her home. Investigative journalists have speculated that Tommaso may be a person of interest, although it remains uncertain whether his involvement is suspicious or simply coincidental.

As the investigation unfolds, various theories have emerged regarding Nancy’s abduction. Some speculate potential cartel involvement or a case of mistaken address, while others believe it may be linked to revenge from a competitor. However, none of these theories have been validated.

The community remains hopeful for answers as the investigation continues, but concerns about collaboration between agencies linger. The puzzling nature of Nancy Guthrie’s case reflects both the complexities of law enforcement cooperation and the emotional toll on the family awaiting answers.
