Harvard junior Jacqueline Metzger, president of the university’s short-form improv group, praised her dramatic performance in “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You,” describing it as anxiety-inducing and her best film of the year. “I’m super excited, and we love her. The celebration drew a mix of local personalities, including Rachel Spurling, the recently crowned Miss Cambridge, who joined the festivities and expressed her delight in participating in the parade. The parade was a colorful spectacle, featuring a variety of characters, including those in drag outfits, vibrant wigs, and imaginative costumes—ranging from cacti to revolutionary soldiers. It concluded at Farkas Hall, where Byrne was set to be roasted by fellow Hasty Pudding Theatricals members. Before entering the venue, Byrne joined in a spirited dance with the performers, showcasing the jovial spirit of the event.
In addition to Byrne, actor Michael Keaton was also recognized by Hasty Pudding Theatricals as the 2026 Man of the Year, having received his pudding pot on February 6. Daisy Nussbaum, President of Hasty Pudding Theatricals, expressed the organization’s excitement in honoring Byrne, stating that following her recent Golden Globe win and Oscar nomination, the award was well-deserved.
The Hasty Pudding Theatricals is not only the oldest theatrical organization in the country but also one of the oldest globally. Since its inception in 1951, the group has annually awarded influential women in entertainment, with past honorees including Meryl Streep and Scarlett Johansson. Last year’s award was presented to Cynthia Erivo, star of “Wicked.”
Byrne has an extensive filmography, which also includes titles like “Juliet, Naked” and “28 Weeks Later.” Her theater credits are significant, with performances in “Medea” and an upcoming role alongside Kelli O’Hara in the Broadway revival of “Fallen Angels” set to begin in March.
