Jessica Pegula, at 31 years old, continues to push the boundaries of her potential on the tennis court. Her dedication to improvement has borne fruit, as she has now reached her seventh consecutive tournament semifinal.
In a thrilling match on Thursday, Pegula faced Denmark’s Clara Tauson, the runner-up from last year’s tournament. Pegula secured her place in the semifinals of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 victory, showcasing her competitive spirit and resilience.
Pegula’s remarkable consistency is highlighted by the fact that the last time she did not advance to the semifinals was at the Cincinnati Masters in August 2025. Since then, her performance has remained steadfast, featuring semifinal finishes in significant tournaments, including the Australian Open and last year’s US Open, where she finished as a runner-up.
Her impressive run can be attributed to hard work and a focused approach to her training. Pegula acknowledged that her recent success stems from a concentrated effort to refine her skills. “Since last summer, I have been working on a lot of things,” she explained. “My coaches and I focused on getting my game back and enhancing my strengths.”
Further emphasizing her progress, Pegula noted improvements in her serving and overall physical condition. “I think I’ve been serving a lot better. Physically, I’ve been feeling good and moving better again. Honestly, I’ve been working on my game a lot, and I’ve become a better player over the last six months,” she remarked.
Looking ahead, Pegula is set to compete against fellow American Amanda Anisimova in the semifinals. Reflecting on their past encounters, she noted, “I played her in Australia. I’ve played her many times. We’ve had a lot of really close matches. It will be interesting to see.”
As she prepares for this match, Pegula’s approach and mindset will be crucial to her continued success on the tour.
