Recent speculation suggested that the upcoming film “Alpha,” part of the Yash Raj Films Spy Universe and directed by Shiv Rawail, would bypass a theatrical release and head directly to OTT platforms following the mixed reception of “War 2.” However, according to Variety India, YRF has rejected a significant streaming offer, opting instead for a theatrical premiere.
Reports indicate that Netflix India had proposed a substantial deal of ₹215 crore for the digital rights to “Alpha.” YRF responded by clarifying that the rumors regarding a direct-to-streaming release were unfounded, emphasizing their commitment to providing theatrical experiences. A spokesperson highlighted that YRF takes great pride in its cinematic offerings and views “Alpha” as a key project.
The production house asserted its intention to create something exceptional with “Alpha.” The statement praised Alia Bhatt as one of India’s top actors and referred to co-star Sharvari as a “brilliant young actor.” YRF expressed optimism that audiences would receive “Alpha” with the same enthusiasm they show for other action films.
Originally, “Alpha” was slated for release on December 25 of the previous year, but delays affected its timeline due to complicated VFX requirements. While some assumed this postponement was influenced by the underwhelming performance of “War 2,” it was further delayed to avoid overlapping with Salman Khan’s “Battle of Galwan.”
Alia Bhatt, speaking at the BAFTA 2026 awards, described “Alpha” as an action-packed entertainer distinct from her other project, “Love & War,” directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. She expressed curiosity about the audience’s reaction to both films, stating that creating them involved years of dedication and passion.
As of now, no new release date for “Alpha” has been officially announced.
