Actor Saif Ali Khan’s son, Ibrahim Ali Khan, has made his Bollywood debut with “Nadaaniyan,” but both the film and his performance faced criticism. His follow-up film, “Sarzameen,” also struggled to gain traction with viewers. Recently, in a podcast with Soha Ali Khan, Saif discussed Ibrahim’s background of privilege and emphasized the importance of forging his own path in the industry.
Saif, whose mother is veteran actress Sharmila Tagore, shared insights on the nepotism that exists within Bollywood. He pointed out the stark contrast between individuals who benefit from advantageous connections and those who come from less fortunate backgrounds with fewer opportunities. This disparity is part of what captivates audiences when they see someone rise to fame through hard work rather than family ties.
He remarked that it is “unfair” for actors to secure roles primarily due to their lineage. Saif expressed frustration over talented individuals being overlooked in favor of those repeatedly given chances without delivering quality performances. He noted, “Once you are great at what you do, the audience feels vindicated, but the problem is when you get repeated opportunities, and you are pretty c**p at what you do.” This situation often leads to public disappointment and scrutiny.
Regarding his own son, Saif mentioned his limited support in Ibrahim’s burgeoning Bollywood career. He stated, “I don’t know if I should stand next to you and hold your hand at this time because you have already got so much because of who you are. So you need to do this on your own.” This perspective highlights the importance of independence in carving out a niche in the competitive film industry.
Looking ahead, Saif has several intriguing projects on the horizon, including “Kartavya,” an investigative drama set to premiere on Netflix. Directed by Pulkit and produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, the film also stars Rasika Duggal and Saurabh Dwivedi and is expected to release later this year. Additionally, he is set to star in “Haiwaan,” reuniting with Akshay Kumar after nearly 17 years.
Meanwhile, Ibrahim is gearing up for his next project, “Diler,” directed by Kunal Deshmukh. Reports suggest that the film will feature Sreeleela as the leading lady, though official confirmation is still pending. “Diler” is anticipated to be Ibrahim’s theatrical debut following his earlier appearances in streaming films that did not resonate with audiences.
