Badshah Faces FIR for Controversial ‘Tateeree’ Lyrics and Video

Rapper Badshah is currently facing legal issues following the release of his Haryanvi song “Tateeree”. The track has drawn criticism for containing what some consider to be obscene content. An FIR was lodged against him at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Panchkula, spurred by complaints from local residents about its potential negative impact on societal values.

The complaints detail that both the song and its music video, available on Badshah’s YouTube channel, feature offensive language and visuals that many find inappropriate, particularly scenes portraying girls in school uniforms. The imagery and lyrics have been described as sending a “negative message to society” and compromising public decency.

Investigations into “Tateeree” are currently under Section 296 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), concerning actions that outrage public decency, as well as Sections 3 and 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, which prohibits the portrayal of women in an indecent manner. Police have confirmed that the inquiry into these allegations is ongoing.

In addition to the FIR, the Haryana State Women’s Commission (HSCW) has also involved itself in the matter. Savita Arya, president of the Nari Tu Narayani Utthan Samiti, and lawyer Rajnarayan Panghal filed separate complaints. Their concerns focus on a line from the song that they argue objectifies women and minors.

HSCW chairperson Renu Bhatia noted that the commission had taken suo motu cognizance of the issue, issuing a summons to Badshah. Bhatia also expressed her astonishment that the song had passed regulatory checks, citing her experience on the Film Censor Board.

“Tateeree” was released on March 1, 2026, featuring Badshah and vocalist Simran Jaglan. The song combines modern rap styles with traditional folk elements, with its lyrics written by Badshah and music produced by Hiten. The accompanying music video was directed by Mahi Sandhu and Joban Sandhu.

As the investigation progresses, the implications of this controversy on Badshah’s career and the broader conversation about content standards in music continue to unfold.
