Release Date for Ryan Gosling’s Project Hail Mary Postponed to Avoid Clash with Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s highly anticipated film, Project Hail Mary, featuring Ryan Gosling, will not debut in India on March 20 as initially planned. Instead, the release date has been rescheduled to March 26 to avoid a direct clash with Dhurandhar: The Revenge, starring Ranveer Singh. The announcement was made on Friday.

Sony Pictures India and IMAX India confirmed the new release date, highlighting that the film will be available in multiple languages, including English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. This adaptation of Andy Weir’s 2021 novel revolves around Ryland Grace, a school teacher who awakens aboard a spacecraft after a coma and encounters an alien being during his journey. The cast also includes Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, and Milana Vayntrub. Early reviews have been encouraging, with filmmaker Guillermo del Toro praising the film for its emotional depth and strong performances.

In their announcement, Sony and IMAX expressed excitement about the film’s journey, stating, “An update from Earth… before we head to space! We want this journey to be truly out of this world.” Fans reacted positively to the release change, with some expressing relief that the film would not be pushed back further, though many were keenly awaiting its arrival in theaters.

Meanwhile, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, the sequel to the successful Dhurandhar, is set to premiere on March 19. The original film, released in December 2025, achieved remarkable success by grossing ₹1300 crore worldwide. This sequel will also be accessible in South Indian languages alongside Hindi, expanding its reach.

Returning cast members include Sara Arjun, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, and Sanjay Dutt, with the storyline centered around an Indian spy who infiltrates a Baloch gang to dismantle a terrorist organization. With minor competition from films like Ustaad Bhagat Singh, Dhurandhar 2 has strategically positioned itself for success, especially following the withdrawal of several other films from the release schedule.
