Raaj Shaandilyaa, a Bollywood director, recently made headlines regarding the upcoming film Bhagam Bhag 2. Initially set to collaborate with Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal, the project faced complications when Shaandilyaa opted out due to contractual disagreements with producer Ektaa Kapoor. Following his exit, he received a legal notice from Kapoor, prompting Shaandilyaa to express his concern about intimidation in a statement to Variety India.
In his statement, he clarified the circumstances surrounding his departure, stating, “I, Raaj Shaandilyaa, had…issued a notice terminating my arrangement with Balaji Telefilms.” He emphasized that over two weeks have passed since he issued his termination notice and that, instead of pursuing legal action, Balaji Telefilms responded with what he called exaggerated and baseless criminal allegations. Shaandilyaa firmly asserted that these accusations were unfounded and part of a strategy to intimidate him in light of their inability to challenge the termination legally.
Further addressing the situation, he reassured stakeholders that the film Bhagam Bhag 2 is still progressing as planned. “I remain fully confident of my legal position and will address any such allegations through the appropriate legal process,” he stated, inviting members of the creative industry to recognize the tactics employed against him and to make informed decisions about future collaborations.
Raaj also conveyed his discomfort with the recent communications from Balaji Telefilms, which he felt were intrusive and fostered a sense of mistrust. This uneasy exchange occurred despite him having completed the script for his next project, Sonam Bewafa Hai.
In related developments, last month actor Paresh Rawal confirmed that Govinda would not be part of Bhagam Bhag 2; instead, Manoj Bajpayee has joined the cast in a leading role.
The original Bhagam Bhag, released in 2006, is a celebrated Bollywood comedy directed by Priyadarshan, known for its slapstick humor. The film, featuring Akshay Kumar, Govinda, and Paresh Rawal, revolves around the tumultuous adventures of a theatre troupe that inadvertently becomes embroiled in a series of criminal events while abroad. As Bhagam Bhag 2 takes shape, it appears that both the cast and crew remain focused on delivering a sequel to this beloved classic amidst the ongoing legal disputes.
