Onir Slams Sarke Chunar’s Lyrics Amidst Growing Backlash

A recent release from the film KD: The Devil, titled “Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke,” has ignited significant backlash among social media users due to its lyrics and visuals. The lyrical video gained rapid attention, with many labeling its content as “vulgar” and calling out its suggestive nature. This wave of criticism has prompted filmmaker Onir to question the role of the Censor Board in allowing such material to be widely accessible.

Onir made his concerns known through social media, responding to a post that inquired why the song was classified for all age groups on platforms like YouTube. He expressed frustration that the board seems preoccupied with less impactful matters, referencing another controversy involving the film Ghooskhor Pandat, which underwent a title change following objections. His comments highlighted a broader discontent with societal norms, stating, “Strange country we are becoming… opposing Valentine’s Day celebration, interfaith marriage/celebration while ok with this rubbish.”

The debate around “Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke” gained traction due to its setting in a dance bar, where Nora Fatehi performs alongside Sanjay Dutt, who engages in suggestive dance moves. While the visuals were already contentious, the lyrical content stirred even more discussion, leading to a heightened focus on its perceived inappropriateness.

Prominent singer Armaan Malik also weighed in, expressing his disdain for the lyrics. He claimed he had to replay the song to confirm his initial reaction, labeling the commercial songwriting as having reached a new low. In a subsequent post, he conveyed his frustration, stating, “I am genuinely at a loss for words. Wish I could unhear it.”

The track is brought to life by singer Mangli, with lyrics penned by Raqeeb Alam and music composed by Arjun Janya. KD: The Devil features a star-studded cast, including Sanjay Dutt, Dhruva Sarja, Shilpa Shetty, and Reeshma Nanaiah. Directed by Prem, the film is set in the gritty backdrop of the 1970s underworld. Fans can anticipate its release in multiple languages across India on April 30.
