Actor Salman Khan recently revealed a significant title change for his anticipated film, previously known as Battle of Galwan. The new title, Maatrubhumi, reflects a shift in the film’s narrative focus, and Salman shared this update along with a new poster on social media, stating, “May War Rest In Peace,” accompanied by the hashtag #Maatrubhumi.
The decision to change the title stems from advice Salman received regarding the film’s portrayal of the Galwan Valley clashes between India and China in 2020. A source quoted by Bollywood Hungama indicated that Salman was encouraged to reconsider both the title and the anti-China aspects of the narrative. The adjustments were made to better align the film with current sentiments and to handle the sensitive subject matter thoughtfully. This revision included reworking substantial portions of the film and fictionalizing aspects of the conflict.
Originally, the film had attracted attention for its depiction of the real-life conflict that drew criticism from Chinese state-backed media, including the Global Times, which claimed the film misrepresented facts and exacerbated anti-China feelings. Following this backlash, significant revisions were undertaken, involving reshoots and rewrites. These updates aim to transform Maatrubhumi into a more emotionally resonant patriotic saga, while reportedly enhancing the relationship dynamics between Salman Khan’s character and that of his co-star Chitrangda Singh.
Produced by Salma Khan under the banner of Salman Khan Films and helmed by director Apoorva Lakhia, Maatrubhumi features Salman in the role of an Indian Army Colonel. The film aspires to depict themes of bravery, sacrifice, and resilience, intertwining these intense elements with narratives of love and familial bonds.
As for the release date, while the film was initially slated for April 10, there are indications it may be postponed to later in the year. The production team has yet to confirm any adjustments to the release schedule.
