Actor-politician Pawan Kalyan has recently responded to the ongoing controversy regarding the delay in censor certification for his upcoming film, Jana Nayagan. The film, featuring Vijay, has faced significant setbacks in its release timeline, prompting speculation about possible political interference.
In a recent interview with Thanthi TV, Pawan Kalyan emphasized that attributing the delay to the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government is unjust. He clarified that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) operates independently, suggesting that the issue primarily stems from procedural complexities within the directorate rather than any political pressure exerted by the government.
“This situation should not be politicized,” Pawan asserted, referencing the circumstances that led to the film’s hold-up at the certification level. He remarked that the Jana Nayagan team was wrong to place blame on the NDA.
Kalyan also drew parallels with his own upcoming film, OG, to reinforce his stance. He recounted how some members of his film’s team suggested that his position within the NDA might lead to a softer certification for their project. He firmly rejected this idea, reasoning that the film’s dense violence warranted an ‘A’ certificate, an appropriate classification by the CBFC. Pawan noted, “Even if I were to leverage my connections, filmmakers and the CBFC operate as independent entities,” underscoring that governance and film censorship are separate domains.
Additionally, he expressed concern over the Juan Nayagan team’s decision to pursue legal action regarding the certification delay. Pawan cautioned that once a case enters the legal system, the ability of filmmakers and the censor board to influence the outcome diminishes significantly, complicating the release timeline even further.
Originally slated for release on January 9, Jana Nayagan was postponed indefinitely due to the lack of a censor certificate. The film was first reviewed by the CBFC examining committee in December 2025, which indicated that certain cuts were necessary for a potential U/A certification. Reports suggest that the producers accepted these recommendations and resubmitted the film, expecting a resolution soon.
However, complications arose after complaints regarding specific scenes led to a referral to a revising committee, which further delayed the certification process. This extended timeline has not only disrupted the film’s release plans but also impacted international distribution agreements and schedules.
Featuring a strong ensemble cast, including Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, and Pooja Hegde, Jana Nayagan has generated substantial anticipation among audiences. The film’s music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, adding to the excitement surrounding its eventual release.
