Tragic Tale of Love: Manjit Remembers Shaheed Nirmal Jit Singh

Actor-politician Pawan Kalyan has recently addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding the censorship delay for his film “Jana Nayagan.” The film, starring Vijay, has been unable to secure a censorship certificate for several months, which has led to speculation about possible political interference. In a recent interview with Thanthi TV, Kalyan refuted these claims, emphasizing that the issue stems from procedural matters rather than external political pressure.

Kalyan articulated that attributing the delays to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government is unjust. He clarified that the decisions made by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) operate independently of political entities. This is pivotal to understanding the current situation, as he believes it is primarily linked to internal processes at the censor board.

In his defense, Kalyan referenced his upcoming film, “OG,” noting that there were expectations from his production team for a more lenient certification due to his political affiliations. He insisted that the intensity of violence in the film warranted an ‘A’ rating, reinforcing his stance that rules should not be bent for individuals connected to the ruling government.

Kalyan stated, “My producers and my director said, ‘You’re a part of the NDA, and your film has been censored A.’ I insisted that an A rating was justified given the film’s content, illustrating that governance and film censorship are distinct processes.” He underscored the integrity of the CBFC’s operations, suggesting that there could not be an undue influence from personal connections.

The actor also questioned the decision by the “Jana Nayagan” team to escalate the matter to the courts. Once legal proceedings commence, the control over the outcome shifts from filmmakers and the censor board to the judicial system, complicating the resolution of the issue.

“Jana Nayagan” was initially set for a theatrical release on January 9 but has now been postponed indefinitely due to the ongoing certification troubles. The film was first screened for the CBFC’s examining committee in December 2025, where it was recommended for adjustments before being eligible for a U/A certificate. After the producers made the necessary cuts, the film faced additional setbacks when certain scenes provoked complaints, leading to its referral to a revising committee.

These complications have significantly disrupted the film’s release plans as well as its distribution arrangements, both domestically and internationally. The ensemble cast includes notable actors such as Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, and Pooja Hegde, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
