Shreya Ghoshal Discusses Arijit Singh’s Hiatus from Playback Singing

Shreya Ghoshal, a prominent figure in the Indian music industry, recently shared her thoughts on Arijit Singh’s decision to step away from playback singing in Bollywood. Her reflections highlight the emotional and professional challenges faced by artists in the industry.

In an interview with ABP News, Shreya addressed Arijit’s retirement and expressed that she too has contemplated taking a break from her musical career. She commended him for the bravery required to make such a significant choice. According to Shreya, performing live is essential to her identity as an artist, and she would never resort to lip-syncing while on stage, stating, “I feel very uncomfortable with that. I will stop singing the day I have to do that.”

Shreya acknowledged the courage it takes to step back from playback singing, reflecting on Arijit’s recent decision. She expressed admiration for his dedication to music, saying, “He is a musician from the heart. He doesn’t think about why he is making music or what he will get from it. He just does what makes him happy.” This sincere passion resonates with audiences, which is a key reason for Arijit’s popularity.

Her own journey in music began with the film “Devdas,” for which she won her first National Award for Best Female Playback Singer for the song “Bairi Piya.” Over the years, Shreya has diversified her portfolio by singing in multiple languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam. She recently announced her upcoming “The Unstoppable World Tour,” with performances slated in various countries, including the UK, USA, India, and Abu Dhabi.

In a significant announcement on January 27, Arijit Singh declared his retirement from playback singing via a post on X, thanking fans for their support over the years. He stated that he would not be accepting any new assignments as a playback vocalist but will continue to create music outside of Bollywood. His desire for the new generation to take the lead in the music scene emphasizes his commitment to inspiring future talents.

Following his announcement, Arijit released “Raina,” his first independent track, showcasing his creativity beyond Bollywood films. The song features music composed by Sheykhar Ravjiani, alongside lyrics by Priya Saraiya, highlighting Arijit’s continued passion for music despite his shift in focus.
