Tom Felton Discusses His Role as a Complex Villain in They Will Kill You

Tom Felton stars in the new action horror film “They Will Kill You,” directed by Kirill Sokolov. Released in theaters on March 27, the film also features actors Zazie Beetz, Myha’la, and Patricia Arquette. Felton’s character is portrayed as a member of a Satanic Club who harbors aspirations similar to those of a James Bond figure, despite lacking the necessary qualities.

In discussing his character, Felton describes Kevin as a “fragile warrior.” He envisions him as a once-successful banker during the ’90s, who achieved remarkable success by being the top banker in London’s financial district for two consecutive years. However, the allure of greater ambition takes Kevin to New York, where his greed ultimately leads to his downfall.

Felton elaborates on Kevin’s trajectory, explaining that his character believes he embodies the essence of a James Bond figure, even though he does not meet the rigorous standards set by intelligence agencies like MI5. This disconnect between his self-image and reality serves as a crucial aspect of the storyline. After reaching the zenith of his career, Kevin quickly finds himself at his lowest point, navigating life in a building called the Virgil, where he struggles to reclaim his lost power.

The film’s exploration of ambition, greed, and the quest for identity reflects broader themes about personal aspiration and the often harsh reality of failure. As Kevin attempts to re-establish his former glory, audiences are invited to consider the lengths to which individuals will go to maintain their self-image and achieve their dreams. Through Felton’s portrayal, “They Will Kill You” delves into the psychological complexities of a character shaped by ambition and failure.
