Varun Dhawan Opens Up About His Humble Beginnings and Family Struggles

Bollywood star Varun Dhawan recently shared insights into his upbringing, revealing a childhood rooted in love rather than material wealth. As the son of renowned filmmaker David Dhawan, Varun described how his family navigated challenging financial times before achieving success.

During an episode of “Be A Man, Yaar!”, Varun recounted his early life, highlighting how his father worked tirelessly to support the family. He reflected, “I got more love in childhood than wealth,” acknowledging the lower-middle-class lifestyle they experienced prior to his father’s breakthrough in the film industry.

Varun emphasized that financial struggles did not hinder his happiness. He reminisced about traveling to school in an auto-rickshaw, stating, “It didn’t matter to me whether I slept on a bed or the floor.” His father, often busy with multiple film projects, was rarely home, and his mother would explain the sacrifices made for their sustenance. She would remind him, “The food you’re eating is because your father is working for it,” especially during tougher times when films did not perform well at the box office.

David Dhawan started his career as an editor in the 1984 film “Saaransh” before transitioning to directing. He gained recognition with the 1993 hit “Aankhen” and solidified his reputation through successful collaborations with Govinda in films like “Coolie No.1” and “Hero No.1.” Over his career, he has directed nearly 45 films, becoming a staple in the Indian comedy genre.

Varun Dhawan found his own path in the film industry, initially working as an assistant director before his big break. Launched by filmmaker Karan Johar in “Student of the Year,” he quickly became a popular figure in Bollywood, delivering hits such as “Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania” and “Badlapur.”

In exciting news, the Dhawan duo is gearing up for the release of their upcoming project, “Hai Jawaani Toh Ishq Hona Hai.” Set to star Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde alongside Varun, the film was postponed to June 12 to avoid competing with the release of Yash’s “Toxic.” This collaboration marks another chapter in the father-son partnership as they navigate the ever-evolving landscape of Indian cinema.
