Ryan Gosling is set to star in an upcoming film directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, known for their acclaimed work on “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” This new project promises to be a sci-fi action comedy and is scheduled for release on November 19, 2027.
Universal Pictures will begin production this summer in Los Angeles, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The casting announcement comes shortly after Gosling’s recent film, “Project Hail Mary,” achieved significant box office success, earning around $100 million in North America and $155 million globally.
Details about the plot remain scarce. However, Kwan provided insight during a Collider interview, describing the film as “fun sci-fi, action comedy with a big heart.” He emphasized that the story will explore existential themes within a “complex” world, which has led to an extended timeline for the project.
This new feature serves as a follow-up to the duo’s previous success, “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” which grossed over $100 million at the box office and won seven Academy Awards, including best picture and best director. Kwan and Scheinert, often referred to collectively as Daniels, made their directorial debut with the fantasy comedy “Swiss Army Man” in 2016, featuring Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe.
Gosling’s involvement in this film marks his second major release in 2027. He is also set to appear in “Star Wars: Starfighter,” directed by Shawn Levy. Kwan and Scheinert will produce the upcoming film alongside longtime collaborator Jonathan Wang under their Playgrounds banner, which has a partnership with Universal Pictures.
