Mikayla Matthews Opens Up About Her Ongoing Battle with Chronic Illness

Mikayla Matthews, a well-known influencer and reality TV star, has recently shared an update on her chronic illness during an interaction with her fans. Known for her appearance on The Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives, she remains active on social media, frequently engaging with her audience. Her latest Ask Me Anything session took an emotional turn as she candidly discussed the challenges she faces due to her health.

During the session, Mikayla was asked how she balances work and motherhood. She responded with an honest account of her struggles, stating, “I don’t, I’m genuinely just barely surviving.” Her heartfelt message resonated with many as she emphasized the importance of self-care and the guilt that often accompanies motherhood. She expressed her desire to recover and be the mom she aspires to be, recognizing the difficulties others face as well.

Mikayla elaborated on her condition, indicating that it has significantly impacted her life. For nearly two years, she refrained from looking others in the eyes and declined several social events due to her illness. When pressed by a concerned follower about the specifics of her chronic illness, she revealed that she is battling Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS), which she attributed to prolonged exposure to toxins like mold. She lamented how the condition has affected various aspects of her body, including her nerves and skin.

This isn’t the first time Mikayla has opened up about her health challenges. In March 2026, she shared striking images of her skin’s reaction to the illness. Earlier, in September 2024, while filming Mormon Wives, she had described her struggles as “fighting for my life.” Additionally, in 2023, she talked about dealing with chronic eczema and her journey toward self-acceptance, admitting the emotional toll that insecurities can take.

Outside her public persona, Mikayla’s personal life has also attracted attention. She is married to Jace Terry, and together they have four children: son Beckham and daughters Haven, Tommie, and Lottie June, who was born in 2025. Their love story began when they were young and eventually culminated in an intimate wedding ceremony.

Mikayla Matthews’ openness about her chronic illness highlights not only her personal struggles but also the broader challenges faced by many individuals dealing with chronic health issues. Her story serves as a reminder of the resilience required in the face of adversity, and her advocacy can inspire others who may be on similar journeys.
