Islamabad United Climbs to Fourth After Victory Over Quetta

Sameer Minhas and Shadab Khan delivered outstanding performances that enabled Islamabad United to secure an easy victory against Quetta Gladiators by eight wickets. Chasing a target of 184 runs, Islamabad reached their goal with 10 balls to spare during the first game of HBL Pakistan Super League 11 at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

This win elevates Islamabad United to fourth place on the points table, closely trailing behind Peshawar Zalmi in third, who currently lead by net run rate. The match showcased a strong comeback for Islamabad after a shaky start.

After losing two early wickets, Sameer and Shadab formed a crucial partnership, amassing 128 runs for the third wicket. Their collaboration was pivotal in stabilizing the innings, which began to flourish after both players found their rhythm. In the 12th over, they struck 22 runs off Tom Curran, signaling their aggressive approach.

Following a solid buildup, the pair took charge as they scored 76 runs in just over five overs, solidifying their team’s advantage. Shadab’s innings included powerful boundaries, including multiple sixes that contributed significant runs in quick succession.

Sameer punctuated the victory with a six in the 19th over, concluding the chase with an impressive score of 82 runs off 48 balls. This marked his highest score in competitive cricket, featuring eight fours and three sixes. Conversely, Shadab provided vital support, ending his innings with 69 not out from 39 deliveries, complemented by five fours and four sixes.

Before Islamabad’s innings, Quetta Gladiators faced early challenges but recovered through a resilient unbeaten partnership of 90 runs between Hasan Nawaz and Tom Curran, which lifted their total to 183 runs for five wickets.
