Dubai Basketball Secures Tough Victory Against Cedevita Olimpija

Dubai Basketball continues to show its prowess in the ABA League Top 8 stage, achieving a hard-fought 89:84 victory over Cedevita Olimpija in Sarajevo. This win strengthens their bid for the top position as they navigate through the competitive league.

The match started with Cedevita Olimpija maintaining a slight edge, ending the first quarter at 23:20. However, Dubai quickly adjusted their strategy, increasing their intensity to flip the score and lead 46:43 by halftime. This shift demonstrated their resilience, crucial for maintaining momentum.

The third quarter marked a significant turning point, as Dubai outperformed their opponents 23-15, establishing a 69:58 advantage heading into the final period. This lead was pivotal, but Cedevita Olimpija mounted a fierce comeback, leveling the score at 84:84 and setting the stage for a tense conclusion.

In the critical moments that followed, key players from Dubai stepped up. Awudu Abass showcased composure at the free-throw line, while McKinley Wright IV executed a vital block that stifled their opponent’s resurgence. Abass ultimately sealed the deal with a powerful dunk, ensuring the victory with a final score of 89:84.

Coach Jurica Golemac praised his players, highlighting the challenge of back-to-back games, especially after an emotionally taxing EuroLeague match. He emphasized the importance of their confidence and smart play in securing the win, despite experiencing a few setbacks during the game.

Dzanan Musa starred for Dubai Basketball, finishing as the game’s leading scorer with 24 points. Abass contributed significantly as well, adding 15 points with a strong all-around performance. This victory elevates Dubai’s record to 19-3 in the Top 8 stage, intensifying the competition as they strive for first place.

This season is distinctive for the ABA League, featuring a new format that sees the Top 8 stage act as a precursor to the upcoming Playoff stage. Dubai had already secured their playoff position back in February, setting high expectations for their performance.

Additionally, on Thursday, Dubai Basketball made waves in the EuroLeague by defeating AS Monaco 101:91, further solidifying their pursuit of a Top 10 finish. As the league progresses, their focus remains on executing their strategy and maintaining form in anticipation of the playoffs.
