The International Film Festival Delhi (IFFD) 2026 commenced on Wednesday, marking an important occasion for the Indian cinema community. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the festival by lighting the ceremonial lamp.
One of the poignant moments of the event was the interaction between veteran actor Nandamuri Balakrishna and his on-screen mother, Hema Malini. Upon meeting her on the red carpet, Balakrishna honored her by touching her feet, a traditional gesture of respect. This heartfelt exchange has since gained traction on social media, with many fans praising the actor’s humility.
In the shared video, Balakrishna beams with joy as he greets Hema, immediately seeking her blessings. The two engaged in conversation, and Hema was seen extending her hand for a handshake while also posing for photographs. Balakrishna’s gesture resonated with many who have followed his career, showcasing a softer side of the actor that is often overshadowed by his larger-than-life persona.
Social media users reacted positively to the clip, highlighting the cultural significance of Balakrishna’s actions. One user remarked on his noble character, while others expressed admiration for his respectful conduct towards Hema Malini, who portrayed his mother in the 2017 film “Gautamiputra Satakarni.”
The festival also recognized the contributions of other luminaries in the film industry. Along with Balakrishna, legendary actors Sharmila Tagore and the late Dharmendra received Lifetime Achievement Awards. The event attracted a host of celebrities, including Arjun Kapoor, Nimrat Kaur, Vicky Kaushal, and Kangana Ranaut, among others, all gathered to celebrate Indian cinema.
Before the festival’s opening, Hema Malini expressed her excitement about IFFD, thanking Rekha Gupta for organizing such an event. She highlighted that the festival would last for four to five days and featured numerous artists who would also receive honors during its run. Additionally, she mentioned a tribute to Dharmendra, underscoring the festival’s commitment to celebrating industry achievements.
Taking place at Bharat Mandapam, the IFFD promises a rich program of screenings, industry discussions, and events throughout its duration, which extends until March 31. This year’s festival aims to spotlight both established names and emerging talents in Indian cinema, solidifying its role as a key platform in the film industry.
