Khushbu Denies Rumors of Husband Sundar C’s Meat Shop Ban in Madurai

Filmmaker and actor Sundar C is embarking on a political career as he prepares to contest the upcoming Tamil Nadu elections as a candidate for the Pudiya Neethi Katchi (PNK) in collaboration with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). His wife, Khushbu, who is also a BJP leader, has publicly supported his political aspirations, defending him against rumors circulating online.

Recently, Sundar faced allegations on social media suggesting he would impose a ban on meat shops in his constituency, Madurai Central, to preserve the sanctity of the local Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple if elected. These claims have stirred significant controversy.

In response to the rampant misinformation, Sundar took to his social media platforms to clarify the situation. He labeled the rumors as entirely false, emphasizing his respect for the diverse beliefs of the constituents. Sundar stated in Tamil, “The news circulating that I said that I would close meat shops in the Madurai Central constituency if I win the election is completely false. People know I respect people’s feelings and rights.” He further expressed a commitment to counter such false narratives with unity and determination.

Khushbu echoed her husband’s sentiments, sharing one of his posts to highlight the deceitful nature of the allegations and holding the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) responsible. She asserted that the DMK’s inability to address Sundar’s integrity prompted them to resort to spreading false narratives. Her social media message included strong opposition to the DMK, urging the public to support Sundar in his political endeavor.

Khushbu’s own political journey began in 2010 when she joined the DMK, later moving to the Indian National Congress in 2014, before aligning with the BJP in 2020. She was appointed as the Tamil Nadu BJP vice president in 2025 and continues to be an active figure in Tamil cinema.

On the film front, Khushbu has appeared in recent projects such as the Tamil film “Nesippaya” and the Hindi film “Subedaar.” Additionally, she produced Sundar’s film “Gangers,” which further showcases their partnership in the industry. Sundar, known for his multi-faceted contributions to cinema, directed, wrote, and starred in “Gangers.” He is also set to appear in “One 2 One” and direct upcoming projects including “Mookuthi Amman 2” and “Purushan,” slated for release this year.

With the Tamil Nadu elections scheduled for April 23, Sundar’s entry into the political arena is keenly anticipated, especially given the combined influence of his and Khushbu’s public personas in both politics and film.
