In March, the release of the song “Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke” from the Kannada film “KD: The Devil” sparked significant controversy. Featuring actors Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt, the song faced backlash for its suggestive lyrics and provocative choreography, leading to a response from the National Commission for Women (NCW).
The NCW has taken action by summoning the involved parties, including Fatehi and Dutt, due to concerns over obscenity and vulgarity in the song. Recent updates reveal that the commission granted Fatehi a final chance to appear in person during a hearing set for April 27, 2026. This decision follows a previous hearing conducted on April 6, where her legal representative appeared but was not accepted by the commission.
During this initial hearing, key figures associated with the song, including lyricist Raqueeb Alam, director Prem, and representatives from KVN Productions, presented their statements. NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar voiced strong concerns regarding the lyrics, emphasizing that they undermine the dignity of women. The commission dismissed claims of ignorance regarding the song’s meaning from those summoned.
As part of the proceedings, the individuals present submitted written apologies, acknowledging the negative societal impact of the song. They committed to promoting women’s empowerment over the next three months and agreed to submit a report to the NCW detailing their efforts.
“Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke” is featured in the pan-India film “KD: The Devil,” directed by Prem. The song’s lyrics, particularly its opening lines, employ double entendres that initially suggest sexual connotation before clarifying they reference a drink, likely alcohol. However, the suggestive choreography accompanying the song has drawn widespread criticism for objectifying the performer.
