Rajpal Yadav Defends Saurabh Dwivedi and Zakir Khan Against Criticism

Rajpal Yadav recently responded to the social media backlash following his appearance at the Chetak Screen Awards. During the event, co-host Saurabh Dwivedi made a comment about Yadav’s ongoing cheque-bounce case while they discussed global currency fluctuations, which provoked a negative reaction from many viewers.

In a video posted on his X account, Yadav expressed his feelings about the incident. He described the awards as an enjoyable experience filled with performances and camaraderie among industry professionals. He emphasized that the discussion with Saurabh and fellow actor Zakir Khan was meant to highlight the complexities of the global economy and its impact on ordinary people.

Yadav explained that misunderstandings can occur, especially in entertainment, where a scene intended to convey one message might not resonate with the audience as planned. He reiterated his close relationship with Saurabh and Zakir, urging fans not to criticize Saurabh for his remarks. He emphasized their bond as artists and called for unity, stating that any hurt directed at Saurabh would also affect him personally.

The moment that triggered the online uproar was when Saurabh joked about Yadav’s financial issues during their conversation about currency values. Saurabh reminded Yadav, “Rajpal bhai, no matter how much the dollar and rupee fluctuate, aapko utne hi paise lautane padenge jitne udhaar hain” (You will have to return the due amount regardless of the currency fluctuations). While Rajpal took this comment lightly, many viewers found it inappropriate, expressing disapproval on social media.

In February 2023, Rajpal Yadav faced legal trouble related to a ₹9 crore debt and cheque bounce case that led to his brief imprisonment in Tihar Jail. He was granted interim bail shortly thereafter and has since resumed his professional commitments. The Delhi High Court later ruled that he would not be returned to custody following the initial interim order, allowing him to focus on his work and public appearances without further legal concerns.
