Filmmaker Priyadarshan has recently addressed rumors surrounding his new film “Bhooth Bangla,” specifically concerning allegations of plagiarism related to one of its songs. The accusation stems from the hook line of the track “Ram Ji Bhala Karein,” which some claim is reminiscent of “Bhuter Raja Dilo Bor” from Satyajit Ray’s 1969 classic “Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne.”
Priyadarshan emphasized that similarities in phrasing are common within the industry. He acknowledged his admiration for Ray, describing him as a master from whom he has learned a great deal. The filmmaker noted the prevalence of certain words in Indian cinema, stating, “There are hundreds of movies that have used the word ‘deewana’. Does that mean the first person who used the word has the right to it?” He assured that the tune of his song does not correlate with Ray’s work.
Renowned for his acclaimed films, including “Hera Pheri” and “Bhool Bhulaiya,” Priyadarshan holds Ray in high esteem, considering him the god of Indian cinema. He clarified that the title “Bhooth Bangla” is not entirely new, referencing an earlier film featuring Mehmood and R D Burman. He remarked, “These things get repeated,” suggesting that such reusability is part of cinematic culture.
“Bhooth Bangla” is a horror-comedy that features a talented cast, including Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Mithila Palkar, and Rajesh Sharma. The film is produced by a collaboration of Balaji Motion Pictures, Cape of Good Films, Akshay Kumar, Shobha Kapoor, and Ektaa R Kapoor.
The film is set to hit theaters on April 17, with paid previews available starting at 9 PM on April 16.
