Filmmaker Priyadarshan has addressed recent allegations regarding the song “Ram Ji Bhala Karein” from his upcoming film “Bhooth Bangla.” Critics suggested that portions of the song were taken from Satyajit Ray’s 1969 classic “Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne.”
The line in question shares a striking resemblance to “Bhuter Raja Dilo Bor.” However, Priyadarshan emphasized that similarities in phrases are common in the film industry. He expressed his admiration for Ray, referring to him as a “master” of Indian cinema. Priyadarshan pointed out that words like “bhoot” are prevalent across numerous films, asserting that this should not be considered plagiarism.
He remarked, “There are hundreds of movies that have used the word ‘deewana’ in Indian cinema. Does that mean the first person who used the word has the right to use it?” His statement underlines his belief that the incident revolves around common terminology rather than a direct copy of musical composition.
Known for his iconic works such as “Hera Pheri” and “Bhool Bhulaiya,” Priyadarshan reiterated his respect for Ray, calling him the “god of Indian cinema.” He added context by mentioning that “Bhooth Bangla” shares its title with a previous film featuring Mehmood and R D Burman, further illustrating how titles and phrases can recur in film.
The movie “Bhooth Bangla” is a horror-comedy featuring a talented ensemble cast, including Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, Paresh Rawal, and Rajpal Yadav. It is produced by Balaji Motion Pictures in partnership with Cape of Good Films, under the production leadership of Akshay Kumar, Shobha Kapoor, and Ektaa R Kapoor.
This anticipated film is set to premiere in theaters on April 17, with paid previews starting the evening prior at 9 PM.
