Filmmaker BVS Ravi recently shared his insights on the film “Dhurandhar,” directed by Aditya Dhar and featuring Ranveer Singh. In an interview, he reflected on the film’s production, suggesting it might signal a significant shift in the Telugu film industry. According to Ravi, this project could represent the ‘beginning of the end’ for traditional production methods among Telugu producers.
Ravi praised Aditya Dhar’s ability to convince cast and crew to support his vision, emphasizing the dedication required to create a film of such scale. He noted, “Look at Dhurandhar, he made an 8-hour film. How hard he must have worked and how much he must have researched.” He also highlighted the film’s significant budget, estimated at ₹260 crore for both parts, and questioned why similar projects are not more common within the Telugu film sector.
He pointed out that while some attribute the lack of comparable films to high star remuneration, he argues it stems more from producers’ planning in the pre-production phase. Rising production costs have posed challenges, making it difficult for others in Tollywood to replicate the grand vision seen in “Dhurandhar.”
“Dhurandhar” premiered in Hindi in December and achieved remarkable box office success, grossing over ₹1300 crore globally. Its sequel, “Dhurandhar: The Revenge,” released in March, has further surpassed ₹1600 crore in earnings, despite its absence from the Gulf markets. This sequel differed by also being available in all South Indian languages.
The film, produced by Dharmendra under B62 Studios and Jio Studios, features a star-studded cast, including Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, and Arjun Rampal. With its impressive performance, “Dhurandhar” has etched its name among the highest-grossing Indian films, following titles like “Dangal,” “Pushpa 2: The Rule,” and “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion.
